There�s no lack of creativity or competitive spirit among the kids and staff at our Ranch Campus near Rupert. An old riding mower past its prime recently got a makeover and a promotion to a new life as a racecar�just in time to compete in this summer�s lawnmower races!
As program director Jim Stockberger tells it:
Last Saturday night was our first lawnmower race. We didn�t do very well because our mower had issues. We will be fixing the issues before the next race at the Minidoka County Fair the end of July. The IYR team had two entries � Flint Christensen (Ranch Campus Recreation Specialist) was in the main event and Liz Stewart (Equine Therapy and Livestock Specialist) was in the Powder Puff event. Liz was in second place and doing great, until the belt came off. I think she would have won the race!
Flint Christensen was the mastermind behind the project. After buying the mower (at a screaming deal) from Jim, he worked with two of our mechanically inclined young Ranch residents to turn the trusty old machine into the sleek racer it is today. Or rather, the sleek racer it will be again -- once that belt is fixed.
