Back-to-School Success

Back to school is coming up fast. With kids heading back to school this fall, make sure you are prepared for what lays ahead. Summer brings a lot of different schedules and activities, but before you know it your kids will be back in the class room. Be ready for those first days back with some of these tips.

Pick Up School Supplies

School supplies can make all the difference in the world to a child. Make sure you get school supplies for your child before school starts so they are prepared going in on the first day. Take your kids with you so that they can help pick out their own school supplies. This will also allow kids to be creative with their selections so they are excited for the new school year.

Dont forget to pick up some extra supplies to help children in need. Many in the Treasure Valley cant afford school supplies for the new year. Every year the Assistance League Boise holds a donation drive to get school supplies for children in need.

Get Them on a Schedule

Since summer is pretty inconsistent getting back on a routine can be difficult. Starting a week before school can help a lot. A sleeping schedule is very important for your kids to be successful, make sure they get 8-10 hours of sleep every night. Getting into that routine a week early can make the first day back easier on them.

Sticking with a schedule can help them a lot. Sit down each week with them and a calendar to plan out the week. This will help both of you know what the impending week entails. What can also help is getting them a planner. This will allow them to remember what assignments are due when and keep track of their day to day activities.

Stay Organized

Keeping track of different assignments and classes can be a challenge for some children. Help them stay organized with folders. Pick up a different colored folder for each class so they can quickly and easily identify which one is for each different class. This will allow them to keep their assignments organized between their different subjects. Highlighters and colorful pens can also help them organize their assignments.

Celebrate Their Victories

By acknowledging their accomplishments (yes even the little ones) and celebrating them, kids will feel more accomplished. This can be extremely encouraging to them to continue their hard work. Celebrating is a great way to motivate your kids. It doesnt have to be big. Little things like ice cream after doing well on a big test, can all the difference.

Incorporate the Fun

Just because summer is over doesnt mean the fun and adventures have to end. There are plenty of fun things to do around the Treasure Valley on the weekends that can keep your kids stay active and creative. The Spirit of Boise Balloon Classic is having their Kids Day on August 29th. On this day, kids will be given free tethered rides on hot air balloons. If your children love animals check out Zoo Boise and the Aquarium of Boise. Zoo Boise provides kids the opportunity to see and learn about many different animals. The Aquarium of Boise teaches kids about sea creatures including sharks and different fish. Both organizations focus on conservation while teaching kids about animals.

Discovery Center of Idaho can be a fun place to take your children on weekends. They can have the chance to explore and play with different exhibits. They can have the chance to learn in a fun, creative, and hands on environment. There are endless things to do in the Treasure Valley that will keep your kids entertained and having fun all year.
