Happy Earth Day!
Idaho Youth Ranch thrift stores are all about reducing, reusing, and recycling—that’s the essence of the thrift store business model. And what makes it all work? YOU, our awesome donors and customers. All over the state, generous Idahoans donate clothes, household items, furniture, and even cars to IYR thrift stores, simplifying their lives and reducing waste. Our customers shop our stores for great deals on that merchandise, reusing those donated items in hundreds of ways. And IYR recycles scrap material we can’t sell in our stores, keeping more than 2,500 tons of material from entering Idaho landfills every year.
Since July of 2014, the Idaho Youth Ranch has recycled more than 6 million pounds of unsalable materials.
This reduce, reuse, recycle loop is good for you, good for the planet, good for Idaho, but most importantly good for the kids and families who need help most and can’t always afford the services they need. What counts most is the way this cycle—combined with cash donations from generous individuals and organizations—generates funds for the services that change lives for Idaho kids and families.
We couldn’t do it without you, and in honor of Earth Day we want to say “thanks” with some exciting specials and discounts at our stores:
- Sign up for paperless receipts! Just ask your cashier at checkout and give us your email address, and you’ll help save LOTS of register tape paper. If even only 20% of our customers opt for eReceipts instead of paper, we could save about 580,000 square feet of paper per year.
- Now you can use your smart phone to redeem our new online 20% discount coupon instead of having to download it and print it out. Get the new coupon at http://youthranch.org/stores/promotions or just show your cashier the image above at checkout. (And yes, you can still print it out and bring it in if you want to keep things old-school or don't have a smart phone!)
- Been meaning to clean out your closet and donate what you don’t wear anymore? If you’re in the Treasure Valley area and have an Uber account, you can have it picked up, no charge. Uber is providing FREE clothing donation pickups—exclusively for IYR—for Uber Treasure Valley customers from April 20-24. You can request a pickup or create an Uber account at https://get.uber.com/go/IDYOUTHRANCH.
